When someone e-mails you, or when you recieve a JIRA ticket related to an e-mail bounce, and you don't know who that user is, what school they are from, or what role they serve within that school, the "Look up a user by e-mail address" feature within CIS is utilized.

To find a user in CIS by their e-mail address:

Login to CIS using either the 'admin' or 'steer' username:

  1. From the main menu, locate the section "EMAIL"
  2. Click the link titled "Look up a user by e-mail address"
  3. Enter the e-mail address that the user is e-mailing from
    1. Or the e-mail address as being reported as bounced within JIRA
  4. Click search
  5. The user's name, role, and school are displayed on screen

CIS Helpful Tip

You can enter part of a user's e-mail address to find possible matches within your region.

For example:

  1. Sandy Sanderson receives email at sandy@sandersonfamily.com
  2. Her sister Sally Sanderson reecieves email at sally@sandersonfamily.com
  3. Sally sends an e-mail from sillysally@sandersonfamily.com and is locked out of her account because sillysally@sandersonfamily.com isn't registered in the system
  4. Using the above workflow to find a user in CIS, you can use part of the email address to find everyone from sandersonfamily.com to find what school she could be from:
  5. Search term "cappies:"
  6. All users are listed that have the term "cappies" in their e-mail address giving you multiple possible matches to find the right account.
